Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it” (Luke 11:28).

As we continue to unlock the purpose of living a virtuous life, I want to recommend a simple practice that will strengthen you in the little things. Our teacher for this is Jesus.

Each time He was tempted in the desert, He countered the devil with a passage from Scripture (Luke 4:1-13). Christ shows us that there is power in the Word. This same principle can be applied in our own struggle to overcome sin and weakness. By identifying the virtue which opposes an area of struggle and intentionally practicing it, you will, with God’s grace, be able to counter it. To help with this approach, we have developed an Examination of Conscience and several other resources (Virtue Chart Pack).

Let us also look to Jesus, our teacher. I encourage you to spend time reading the Word of God to discover texts which will strengthen you in times of temptation, sorrow, loneliness, and anxiety. I would like to also suggest including a few passages of praise and worship to offer when you experience His presence.
